Case Study – Transport & Industry Application
Swisspro is a Swiss leader in electrical installations, ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), and automation, with over 1000 employees across 20 sites. The company is renowned for its ability to manage projects from A to Z, from planning to maintenance.
As part of a project for one of its clients, a major public transport company, Swisspro needed to equip critical infrastructures: buildings serving as warehouses and maintenance areas.
The end client required telephone sets capable of integrating into their closed corporate network while withstanding a demanding work environment. The objectives were as follows:
Public transport maintenance workshops impose specific physical and technical constraints:
Equipment is exposed to dust, high humidity, and even gases or particles that can cause chemical reactions.
Electrical power is not always convenient or accessible at the desired location for the phone.
The need to integrate voice over a data network requires fine bandwidth management to avoid disrupting other systems.
To meet these complex specifications, A2S selected the ATHOS IP version industrial phone series. This model was chosen because it is specifically designed to handle difficult, even extreme, environments, both indoors and outdoors.
ATHOS phones were deployed in storage and maintenance areas, where conventional office phones would not survive.
The phone features a magnetically closing protective door that automatically closes to protect the keypad and handset from water, dust, and chemicals.
A spark-proof composite casing offers high resistance to shocks, weather, and corrosion.
The device features a silicone gel keypad, speed dial buttons, and an optical LED indicator to visually signal incoming calls in noisy environments.
1) Simplified installation via PoE
A single RJ-45 cable powers the phone and transmits data, reducing cabling costs and facilitating installation in areas without conventional power.
2) Optimized network management (QoS)
The integrated VoIP card prioritizes voice traffic, secures the network, and ensures consistent call quality, even under heavy load.
3) Remote maintainability
ATHOS phones are updated and diagnosed remotely via server, limiting on-site technical interventions.
The integration was designed to be fast and efficient. Thanks to SIP compatibility and 10/100Mp Ethernet support, the phones naturally integrated into the client’s network infrastructure. The choice of PoE offered great flexibility in positioning within large maintenance hangars.
The ATHOS solution perfectly met the public transport operator’s communication requirements.
By collaborating with Swisspro, A2S VOICE demonstrated that industrial telephony can be both ultra-robust and technologically advanced. The deployment of ATHOS IP phones provides the end client with operational peace of mind, with a communication system that fears neither dirt nor network failures.
